About KujaLink

KujaLink is an initiative of Adeso that connects local and national NGOs with global funders and increases organizations’ visibility to improve the work they are doing in their communities. The technical development of KujaLink is led by the team at Philanthropy.io.

The platform is being developed with the generous support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Conrad N. Hilton FoundationOak Foundation, David & Lucille Packard Foundation and the Climate Justice-Just Transition Donor Collaborative. Initial development support was provided by Humanity United and the Segal Family Foundation. Site development would not have been possible without the contributions of CIVICUS and the members of the Affinity Group of National Associations and NEAR and it’s partners around the world.

While many solutions currently exist to address some of the challenges to increasing direct funding to civil society organizations serving their communities in countries receiving humanitarian or other development assistance, an alternative to KujaLink does not exist. KujaLink takes important processes with existing solutions and combines them to bring services to a population that is historically underserved and excluded. KujaLink is a complement to, not a replacement for other platforms and services such as Candid, Guidestar, NGO Source, GrantAdvisor, CIVICUS’ member platform, and NEAR’s South-to-South platform.

Changing the way
people think about and
deliver aid.

Founded in 1991, Adeso is an African humanitarian and development organization that is changing the way aid is delivered. Since 2010, Adeso has led consultations with civil society in countries receiving humanitarian or other development assistance which lead to the creation of the first ever civil society network in a country receiving humanitarian assistance, the Network for Empowered Aid Response (NEAR).

Through this work Adeso has developed an intimate understanding of the problems faced by both local and national NGOs on a micro and macro level. Adeso has a strong understanding of the barriers that local organizations face in accessing direct funding from donors and the challenges that donors face in partnering with local organizations.

The KujaLink platform development initiative is a critical component of Adeso’s five-year strategy that is focused on systems change and infrastructure development to support the creation of an ecosystem that supports more democratic and equitable resourcing and the strengthening of Global South civil society leading to the decolonization of the aid system.
